To Protect or Provoke?

The LA Police Protective League (union of rank and file officers), officers should be wearing protective helmets during protest demonstrations. But the department leaves it up to commanders in the field as to when they should be used. The union says the practice employed by LAPD brass is to be politically correct but endangers officers. They say an incident in January proves their point.
