Water Main Break Knocks Out Power to Beverly Hilton

The Beverly Hilton went dark Tuesday night after a water main break knocked out power to the luxury hotel, flooded a lot and affected traffic in the area. Robert Kovacik reports from Beverly Hills for the NBC4 News at 11 on Tuesday, sept. 9, 2014

A water main break in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night knocked out power to the Beverly Hilton, Southern California Edison officials said.

The rupture happened at Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, the utility said. Power went out for four customers, including the luxury hotel, about 9:15 p.m.

Aerial footage showed fire crews apparently pumping water out of a flooded construction site of a Waldorf Astoria luxury boutique.

Officials said the water may have entered electrical vaults that supply power to the Beverly Hilton.

Minimal damage was reported at the hotel.

Power was restored just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, utility officials said.

Traffic in the area was also affected by the main break.
