Tsunami Could Bring 10 to 15 foot Surge to SoCal Coast: Expert

When two simulated tsunami scenarios brought dozens of emergency responders and planners to Marina del Rey this week, they sought tsunami expertise from a leading academic authority, Costas Synolakis, a professor at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and Sonny Astani of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Synolakis applauded the exercise as an essential step in preparing for a potential tsunami far more devastating to Southern California than what has occurred the past century. During a break, Synolakis spoke with NBC4’s Patrick Healy on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 about the scenarios that concern him.
