2 Killed, Suspect Injured in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on 241 Freeway

The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital with serious injuries

Two people were killed Sunday morning in a fiery wrong-way freeway crash in Orange County.

The accident happened on the 241 Freeway just after 3:30 a.m. when a Mercedes traveling north on the southbound 241 hit a Prius head-on, killing a 70-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man upon impact, the California Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the Mercedes, a man in his 30s, was taken to the hospital for serious injuries and was under arrest, said CHP Sgt. Todd Kovaletz. The CHP was still investigating the accident to determine which charges to press.

The CHP advised drivers to avoid the left lane on the freeway, as wrong-way drivers often think they are driving in the slow lane on the opposite side.
