Teen Rider Hit by Bullet Fired Outside of Bus in South Los Angeles

A teen was wounded in a shooting on a public bus in South Los Angeles Friday night, the victim of a stray bullet, officials said.

The 17-year-old basketball player was hit in the side but didn't suffer life-threatening injuries. He was treated at California Hospital and released to recuperate at home, officials said.

The incident began when three men approached a woman in a car about 10:15 p.m. at West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Western Avenue, according to Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Sara Faden. One of them spoke to the woman, who began driving away.

That man fired at the woman's car, shattering glass but not injuring the woman. She drove herself to a hospital to be treated for cuts.

One of the bullets hit a moving Metro bus and struck the teenager.
