John Whitmore of Los Angeles was standing on the Willowbrook Station platform in the afternoon of June 13 when two females approached him and began to punch and kick him until he collapsed to the ground, Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators said.

Whitmore was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries Friday.

The two assailants ran off and have not been found, investigators said.

A motive for the attack was unclear.
