“Don't Let Him Die Lord”: Mother Prayed for Life of Son Fatally Shot Outside Pomona Home

When she went outside and found her she said, "Don't let him die lord, he's a good man don't let him die."

A mother has revealed she prayed for her son's life when she found him fatally gunned down outside her house in Pomona.

Pearl Montgomery was inside saying her morning prayers when she heard gunshots outside her home on Fanshaw Avenue at around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

When she went outside and found her 51-year-old son Gregory Montgomery lying in a pool of blood she asked, "Don't let him die lord, he's a good man don't let him die."

Montgomery said she could not see her son when she looked outside her window after hearing "four or five of the loudest noise shots I have ever hear," only finding him when she went out to investigate.

But despite losing her son, she revealed will not be looking for retribution from his killer.

"I forgive the person that did this," Montgomery said, "I forgive them because there's a higher calling than me."

Gregory Montgomery's brother Darrell was devastated, as he had managed to turn his life around, and served as a mentor to youth in his community

"He was into trouble a lot, and he changed," Gregory Montgomery said, "I believe that was the prayer of God and saints that kept him here this long."

Pomona Police Department detectives are looking for two suspects, though there is no description of either at this stage. Investigators were canvassing the neighborhood Friday night as they tried to find leads on the shooting.
