Water for about 50 customers in Mid-City, including some businesses and residents, was shut off after a 6-inch cast iron pipe burst early Sunday.

The water main break was reported around 6 a.m. in the 1700 block of Ellsmere Avenue, according to the Department of Water and Power.

Crews were able to stop the flow of water shortly after arriving on scene.

It was unclear what caused the water main to burst.

Traffic, a mix of businesses and residents, and two fire hydrants in the area were affected by the break.
