Mike Dorfman has been an investigative producer for NBC 7 San Diego since 2021. Alongside a dedicated team, he’s fortunate to be given the time and resources to dig deeply into complex stories, often pursuing investigations over weeks or months. He uses public records, data analysis, and source-driven reporting to break stories about public safety, government oversight, and accountability.
Before joining NBC 7, Mike built a career in broadcast journalism. Over the years, he has taken on a variety of roles in the newsroom, including producer, photographer, and reporter. Mike is a seven-time Emmy Award Winner, which includes reporting that uncovered failings in foster care and law enforcement.
Born and raised in Virginia Beach, Mike bounced around the east coast. That includes spending more than a decade in Jacksonville, FL, where he met his wife. You can usually find a collection of foster dogs and kittens in their home.
