Tarzana Elementary School Locked Down for Hours During Bank Robber Search

Two men wanted in the west San Fernando Valley bank heist were seen running on the 101 Freeway

The search for two bank robbers last seen running on the 101 Freeway in the west San Fernando Valley continued at mid-day Thursday after a takeover-style heist.

Officers established a perimeter around the search area near the Tampa Avenue exit. The bank robbery at a Citibank in the 19200 block of Ventura Boulevard was reported at about 10 a.m.

Tarzana Elementary School (map) officials confirmed the campus was locked down during the search. The lockdown was lifted later in the afternoon.

Details regarding the robbery and whether the subjects used guns were not immediately available. No suspects were taken into custody.

Yellow police tape blocked off the bank entrance early Thursday afternoon. Several police squad cars remained in the neighborhood near the 101 Freeway and Tampa Avenue at 1 p.m.
