Driver Found Hiding in Airport Bathroom After Pursuit ID'd

Officers had tried to stop the man at around 12:30 a.m. for a vehicle code violation and outstanding warrants

A man who was found hiding in a general aviation airport bathroom after a high-speed pursuit last week has been identified as a 36-year-old parolee.

Junaro Ramirez led police on a chase with a female passenger at speeds over 100 mph from Buena Park to the Fullerton Airport on Wednesday where he ditched the car and ran into a bathroom, Buena Park police said in a news release.

The pursuit began after a traffic stop near Magnolia Avenue and the Golden State (5) Freeway in Buena Park.

The chase ended when the driver failed to negotiate a turn at Commonwealth Avenue where Magnolia Avenue ends, about a mile away from where it started, police said.

The suspect continued through the intersection colliding head on into a tree in front of the Fullerton Municipal Airport. He then ran off, leaving the female in the vehicle.

A search of the area turned up the suspect hiding in a restroom at one of the airport hangars.

He was hurt from the collision with the tree. The passenger had moderate injuries. Both were treated at a hospital.
