Is it the weekend, yet? Not quite, but here's another reason to start making plans -- it's an entrance fee-free day in honor of the National Park Service system's 103rd anniversary.

Entrance fees are waived at several national parks this weekend, including Yosemite, Death Valley and Joshua Tree. It's part of the NPS anniversary celebration. Here are the details.
Gunman Opens Fire on Officers at a Stoplight
A gunman was shot and killed by police after he ambushed officers at a stoplight late Sunday in the El Sereno area of Los Angeles. Two officers in a patrol car were stopped at a traffic light when they were fired on by a man armed with handgun who was standing on a corner at the intersection, police said. We have updates here.
