Sir Winston Churchill once noted, "One does not leave a convivial party before closing time." All staffers at Ye Old King's Head Pub know is that a painting of the British statesman left sometime before that.
In the darkest hour (actually, sometime between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.), someone removed the painting from the Santa Monica pub. Employees told the LA Times they're not sure on which day the painting went missing.
“They just took it off the wall and walked out with it,” Dusty Kerr, King’s Head’s manager, told the Los Angeles Times.
The painting, stone-faced Churchill and part of a torn Union Jack hovering over the city skyline, had been at the Santa Monica pub for decades. The painting came from England 35 years ago with the original pub owner, according to the Times report.
