    NEWSLETTERS

An Apple employee reportedly lost an iPhone 4S prototype in July. Someone picked it up, took it home, and Apple security allegedly posed as cops to get it back.

Those security types would have worked for John Theriault, Apple's vice president of global security. Theriault was one degree removed from reporting to CEO Steve Jobs. Theriault is no longer with Apple, reports the go-to blog 9to5Mac.com.

The San Francisco Police Department is investigating the allegations.

As secret and protective as Apple is about its plans and product pipeline, Theriault's gig would have been critical to day-to-day operations, given Apple's global production footprint.

Other senior officials have left Apple, choosing (?) to fluorish elsewhere after Steve Jobs handed over CEO duties to Tim Cook.
