Facebook Removes AZ Gov.'s Anti-Obama Comment

Facebook removed a post from the account of controversial Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer criticizing the president's immigration policy -- and then apologized, calling the edit a mistake.

"The post was removed in error," Andrew Noyes, Facebook's manager of public policy communications said in a statement. "We apologize for any inconvenience."

Brewer said the post was removed because the illustration on the account violated community standards, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The post featured a drawing of Brewer in the style of 1940s U.S. war propaganda with the accompanying post, "I think many of you will agree with me - Obama’s backdoor amnesty plan violates American standards of following the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution." The comment received more than 10,000 Likes.

The drawing featured Brewer dressed like the female subject in J. Howard Miller's "We Can Do It!" poster, a World War II factory worker flexing a bicep, with the caption, "Arizona -- Doing the Job the Feds Won't Do."

Facebook's keeping mum on why it deleted the illustration and its accompanying post in the first place. Were there complaints? Was Facebook afraid it was copyright infringement? Was Brewer's illustration considered "hate speech"? All these things are reasons it could violate community standards.

However, you have to give some credit to Facebook -- at least it apologized for being wrong.
