A kayak and SUP paddle at Mission Bay's Vacation Isle raises funds for wounded veterans to take part in kayak programs. Want to join? Be in San Diego on Sunday, Nov. 15.

VETERANS DAY... is beyond a day, of course. Thanking those who serve can and should happen any day of the year, though fully honoring Nov. 11, and the second week of the eleventh month, is a traditional and lovely thing to do. Not every veteran-nice happening occurs on the 11th day of November, of course; you're bound to see some special parades and meals happen the week before, if the date falls during the week, and a number of to-dos during the weekend that follows. One of the most moving, in both senses of the word, is happening in San Diego, at Paradise Point Resort. It's a fundraiser, in fact, a match-up between the tropical-cool destination and Ninkasi Brewing Co., and it is all about benefiting Team River Runner.

PADDLE FOR A CAUSE: If you're not familiar with the non-profit organization, Team River Runner has the sweet subtitle "our road to recover is a river." It's a clue as to its mission, which is helping wounded veterans get back to an active and communal pursuit, paddling specifically, on both inland waterways and the open ocean. The Pacific Ocean is the setting for the Sunday, Nov. 15 fundraiser in San Diego, a gathering called Pints and Paddles. The "paddles" part reveals that participants in both a Pro Race Heat and an Amateur Race Heat'll be taking part in "a 2-mile kayak and SUP paddle around Mission Bay's Vacation Isle." The pints part? Well the event is going down during...

SAN DIEGO BEER WEEK... and a Pint for a Cause after-party at the Barefoot Bar & Grill will keep the good foam flowin' (plus participants will receive a special glass to use there). It's a day of some sweat, some sunshine, some suds, and loads of good, giveback, help-one-another feeling. Oh, and a kayak, too, which will go to one raffle winner, which is mighty sweet. Want to join in? Start here. Can't make it on that Sunday but want to know more about the work Team River Runner does, and lend your support there? Raise your paddle high and turn your bow this way.
