Protester Outside Trump D.C. Hotel Hospitalized With Burn Injuries

A man was hospitalized after he said he tried to light himself on fire Tuesday night in the street outside the Trump International Hotel in Washington as a protest.

A police incident report said that an officer saw a person set himself on fire Tuesday night and called for an ambulance. D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo told The Associated Press an ambulance was sent to the area of the Pennsylvania Avenue hotel.

Maggiolo said a man with burn injuries was taken to a hospital with potentially serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

"I was trying to light myself on fire in an act of protest," the man said as he was taken into custody. "I'm protesting the fact that we've elected somebody who is completely incapable of respecting the Constitution of the United States."

The man said he was from California, but did not provide more details.
