Mother Gets Adventure of Lifetime

A 45-year-old mother and her 9-and 10-year-old sons were rescued from a steep gorge at the base of a waterfall in Eaton Canyon Tuesday.

The mother went off the trail for an adventure that went awry about 11:30 a.m., said Capt. Mike Parker of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.  Rescuers declined to release the name of the woman.

They went into a steep gorge that they couldn't get out of, Parker said.

``It's easier to go down than to come back up,'' Parker said.

They found themselves stuck on a ledge 50 feet above the base of a waterfall. However, the mother had a cell phone and was able to get good enough reception to call the Altadena Sheriff's Station, Parker said.

The rescuers repelled down and pulled the woman and her two sons out of the gorge into the awaiting Sheriff's Air Rescue 5 helicopter.

There were no injuries, Parker said.
