Cops Send Moving Car Into Spin With PIT Maneuver

A motorist who allegedly ran a red light in Culver City and led authorities on a chase to East Los Angeles was arrested Tuesday when a California Highway Patrol officer used the PIT maneuver to nudge the car into a spin.

The suspect surrendered facedown on the pavement about 9:15 a.m. near Olympic Boulevard and Ditman Avenue, according to the CHP.

The chase began about 8:35 a.m. in the Culver City area, where officers saw the motorist run a red light and started pursuing him, said CHP Officer Miguel Luevano.

The motorist led officers onto the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway and then onto surface streets in the Commerce and East Los Angeles areas.

CHP officers finally used the pit intervention technique, or PIT maneuver, to stop the fleeing motorist. A patrol car forced the suspect's car to spin out, and the motorist surrendered.
