Driver and Passenger Die After Car Crashes Into Tree, Bursts Into Flames

The car burst into flames when it crashed into a tree during a police pursuit

Two people died Sunday when a stolen vehicle burst into flames after being driven head-on into a tree in Hollywood.

The crash occurred shortly after police began pursuing a 1993 Honda Accord that was reported stolen near the Hollywood area, said the LAPD Hollywood Division.

Police attempted to pull over the car, but it failed to yield and a pursuit began at 2 a.m. Less than two minutes later, the driver lost control of the car and crashed it into a tree at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Gower St.

Police and fire units attempted life-saving measures, but both the driver and the passenger died at the scene, said LAPD Media Relations.

Neither the driver nor the passenger has been identified.
