Fallen Trees Damage Homes, Cars

High winds and rain may be to blame for several trees that fell on homes and cars Wednesday afternoon.

A 24-year-old woman escaped with minor injuries when a tree toppled over on her car in the 1200 block of Benedict Canyon Drive, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Firefighters used chain saws to cut the mammoth-sized tree limbs in the northbound lanes of the narrow canyon road.

Newport Fire Department personnel said the damage appeared to be minimal. Crews were busy  removing the tree and debris.

A second tree fell on two homes in the 700 block of Via Lido Soud causing minor damage.  No injuries were reported.

An early winter-like storm moved through the Southland Wednesday bringing strong winds and moderate rainfall.

As much as two inches of rain and light snow in the maintain areas are expected Wednesday night.
