French Cheese Recalled Due to Deadly Bacteria

Whole Foods Market recalled a French cheese that could be contaminated with potentially deadly Listeria bacteria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recalled cheese, labeled Trois Comtois Morbier, comes in 11-pound wheels and then is cut and wrapped in varying weights, according to the agency. Whole Foods issued the recall last week after the French cheese producer recalled the products. Other markets also sell the cheese.

No illnesses related to  the Trois Comtois Morbier cheese have been reported.

Listeria is a bacterial infection that can kill young children, elderly adults and people with weakened immune systems and cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, according to the FDA.

Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the agency said.

The cheese was sold across the nation. In Southern California, Hawaii and Arizona, it was labeled Morbier Raw Milk French Cheese, PLU code 293358.

Labels and codes varied in other states or regions. Visit the FDA's website for more information.
