Inglewood Schools Get $10M to Soundproof From Airport Noise

Sound-insulation construction include thicker doors, acoustic ceiling tiles and sound-rated windows.

Students at Inglewood schools will get noise relief after a grant will help bring improvements to reduce noise from planes flying overhead at Los Angeles International Airport.

The Inglewood School District received a $10 million installment Thursday from Los Angeles World Airports to soundproof the district's facilities.

Earlier this year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved $44.4 million in funds for the repairs at six Inglewood schools, including Payne Elementary School, Woodworth Elementary School and the Child Development Center at Woodworth Elementary School.

Sound-insulation construction include thicker doors, acoustic ceiling tiles and sound-rated windows.

The funds will come from Passenger Facility Charges, which are $4.50 fees on every enplaned passenger.
