Cops Dig Up Restaurant in Search of Remains

Suspect jumped off 80-foot cliff last week

Investigators expect to be digging at a Lomita restaurant "for some time" in search of a missing woman's remains.

Dawn Viens, 39, was last seen Oct. 18, 2009, walking away from the Thyme Contemporary Cafe in Lomita.

Her husband David -- who owns the restaurant -- was arrested Monday at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and booked on suspicion of murder.

David Viens awakened from a coma on Friday. He was under surveillance since he jumped off an 80-foot cliff near the 31500 block of Palos Verdes Drive West about 9:15 a.m. last Wednesday, said sheriff's Deputy Aura Sierra.

"We are excavating parts of the restaurant," Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Los Angeles Times. "We expect to be there for some time."

Whitmore told the newspaper that investigators are using a cadaver-sniffing dog at the dig site.
