Deputies opened fire early Monday when the driver of a black sedan drove toward a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department vehicle in South Los Angeles, according to authorities.
The shooting occurred at about 3:30 a.m. near 123rd Street and Raymond Avenue. A black Mercedes Benz was found after the driver crashed into garbage cans later Monday morning.
Police did not immediately confirm the vehicle was the same car involved in the altercation in South LA. The car had bullet holes and a shattered window.
Details regarding what prompted the altercation were not immediately available. A witness told NBC4 she heard about five rounds.
Deputies continued to search Monday for the occupants of the vehicle.
No deputies were injured.
