Man Shot During Altercation With Police in San Bernardino

A man was shot and wounded during an altercation with police in San Bernardino Saturday, officials said.

Police received a call of a man with a gun in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Meridian Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Saturday evening.

When officers arrived, the man fled on foot and during the chase the suspect was shot in the front parking area of the San Bernardino Motel, according to Lt. Richard Lawhead of the San Bernardino Police Department.

The man is in stable condition at Arrowhead Regional Hospital and is expected to survive.

He will be arrested when he is discharged, Lawhead said.

A gun and a large amount of narcotics were recovered after the shooting. The suspect is described as a documented gang member with a lengthy criminal history.
