A 25-year-old man accused of leading authorities on a televised police pursuit - which shut down the 91 Freeway for several hours - was charged Monday, prosecutors said.

John Raymond Lopez, of Norwalk, faces charges including possession for sale of cocaine base, assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing a pursuing peace officer's motor vehicle while driving recklessly, taking a vehicle without consent, and hit-and-run driving resulting in injury to another person.

He also faces charges of hit-and-run resulting in property damage and driving when privilege suspended or revoked for a driving under the influence conviction.

He has a prior conviction for assaulting an officer or firefighter in 2014.

During the three-hour police pursuit, Lopez allegedly hit two cars and injured one of the drivers, prosecutors added.

Following a standoff with police on the 91 Freeway, Lopez was extracted from the Mercedes Benz and arrested, according to prosecutors. Lopez allegedly was found in possession of drugs in the vehicle that had been rented to another person, according to prosecutors.
