Sketch of Attacker Released in Beating of West Hollywood Man

Sheriff's deputies release a sketch Wednesday of one of three attackers wanted in the Memorial Day weekend beating of a West Hollywood man who remains hospitalized with head injuries.

Kirk Doffing, 45, was assaulted while walking near Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards about 9:10 p.m. on May 24, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators said.

His identity was unknown for days as he was treated at Cedars Sinai Medical Center for his injuries, which included brain trauma.

Witnesses came forward with the description after the city of West Hollywood announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction.

"I am very grateful the reward brought us a witness," said Doffing's sister, Jackie Geisinger. "It's exactly what we need to start moving forward."

Geisinger says her brother is on a slow path to recovery. His limbs are finally moving, but he is relearning how to walk and speak. Doctors told her it was one of the worst brain injuries they had ever seen.

"We will get him well and we will get the crime solved," Geisinger said. "There is progress and that makes us very happy."

Geisinger continues to help her brother in his recovery and believes that the assailants will be caught.

"You have no idea how you changed my brother and everyone's lives around him and this community," Geisinger said.

Doffing had words with one of the attackers, who punched Doffing three or four times in the face, then all three men ran south on San Vicente Boulevard toward Melrose Avenue, detectives said.

The attackers were described as three men in their 20s, wearing dark clothing.

Detectives released a composite drawing of the man who delivered the punches and asked anyone with information to call the West Hollywood Station at 310-855-8850.
