[LA] Mom of Slain Boy Terry Smith Breaks Her Silence
Shawna Smith, the mother of 11-year-old Terry Smith, broke her silence Wednesday after her son’s body was discovered in the backyard of their Menifee home three weeks ago. She says she doesn’t understand why anyone would think she had anything to do with the death of her son. Tony Shin reports from Menifee for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Terry was reported missing July 7, prompting a massive search by authorities and hundreds of volunteers in Menifee, a suburb about 80 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Three days later, authorities discovered Terry’s partially exposed body behind his mother's home.

His 16-year-old half brother, Skylor Atilano, was charged with murder in connection with the death. Atilano is expected in court in September. Prosecutors want to try him as an adult.
