Jet Intact After Aborted Takeoff in Van Nuys

A Mexican-registered Falcon jet aborted its takeoff Friday at Van Nuys Airport and skidded to a stop off the south end of a runway, but no one was hurt, a fire official said.

Firefighters were sent to the airfield at 1:14 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

There was no fire, and the twin-engine airplane was "intact," about 100 feet past the end of the runway, Humphrey said. The circumstances of the accident were under investigation.

Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft stopped in the "runway safety area" past the end of Runway 16-R. The FAA was investigating, Gregor said.
