Water Main Break Floods Freeway, Closes Cahuenga Blvd.

DWP expects repairs to be made by Thursday evening.

The eastbound side of Cahuenga Boulevard was still closed late Thursday morning from Pilgrimage Drive to Barham Boulevard after an overnight water main break flooded the Cahuenga Pass and two lanes of the northbound 101 Freeway.

An 8-inch cast iron main ruptured around 2:50 a.m. No customer service interruptions were reported, according to Jane Galbraith, a spokeswoman for the Department of Water and Power.

The closure caused delays for morning commuters. Local residents were allowed in and out, but access remained limited and travel is somewhat slow.

The Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol assisted the DWP to prevent further damage and control traffic. The DWP expects the repairs to be completed early Thursday evening.
