Body Dumped on Freeway ID'd as Teen Girl

LAPD Homicide Detectives say body was dumped and covered with plastic.

Authorities Wednesday identified a body left by the side of the freeway Monday night as that of a 17-year-old girl.

Detectives aren't sure how long her body had been there.  A transient who lives in a homeless encampment nearby spotted the body and contacted police late Monday night.

The body appeared to have been dumped, according to Det. DeWain Fields of the LAPD.

Det. Fields said it was covered in plastic. The LA County Coroner will have to determine the cause and time of death.

Detectives said they will be looking in their missing persons file to see if there's a match.

In the meantime, they ask anyone who might have information on the case to call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).  Tips can be submitted anonymously.
