Identify the Missing Day Aimed to Aid in Cases of Missing Individuals

Identify the Missing Day aims to help the public take action on cases of their missing loved ones

Families and friends of missing individuals are invited to meet Saturday with forensic professionals and law enforcement agents during Identify the Missing Day, an effort to help the public take action on cases involving loved ones.

The event will focus on the case of Percy Ray Carson, 26, who went missing July 1992 in the ocean off Huntington Beach. A human femur was discovered at Seal Beach Sept. 2, 1992, and a Forensic Anthropologist’s review in April 2015 indicated that Carson’s case and the femur were connected. At the event, forensic professionals will conduct DNA cheek swabs on family members and law enforcement will be there to file missing person reports and gather and update information for older reports.

Family members are encouraged to bring at least two biologically related family members of the missing person to provide DNA samples, dental information, photographs and X-rays of the missing person.

There are currently 100 unidentified missing persons in the OC Coroner office.

Identify the Missing Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the California Coroner Training Center, located at 1071 W. Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana.
