The southbound 5 Freeway reopened Friday morning after a fatal crash investigation that closed the road for about three hours.

One motorist was killed when a car collided with a big rig's trailer near the Buena Vista exit in Burbank. The crash was reported at 4:14 a.m.

The investigation and clean-up lasted until about 8 a.m. Check Sigalert for traffic information from the CHP.

The entire southbound freeway was closed at Hollywood Way at 5:37 a.m. Southbound traffic was backed up to Sunland Boulevard at about 6:30 a.m.

The Toyota Camry was pinned under the truck's trailer. The vehicle was removed at about 7 a.m.

The disabled semi-trailer truck was stopped in a traffic lane, according to the CHP. The vehicle crashed into the back of the trailer.

A witness told authorities that several cars were racing on the 5 southbound prior to the crash. Investigators did not say the crash involved a street race.
