Mariah Carey Addresses Pregnancy Rumors: “I am Very Superstitious”

Mimi doesn’t want to jinx it.

Mariah Carey has responded to a drumbeat of pregnancy rumors by saying she’ll keep refusing to confirm or deny for the time being whether she’s expecting her first child with hubby Nick Cannon.

“I appreciate everyone's well wishes. But I am very superstitious,” the “Honey” singer said in a statement. "When the time is right, everyone will know – even Cindi Berger [my publicist]."

The latest pregnancy rumors were sparked last week when Carey, 41, was spotted in Brazil wearing a $140 spaghetti halter maternity dress by Pea in the Pod.

Back when rumors flared in June, Cannon, 29, tweeted that his wife of two years would be the one to break the news, according to People.

"We all know it's extremely personal, and it is for a woman to deal with things with her body, and especially when dealing with the idea of childbirth and all that stuff," Cannon reiterated on his radio show on Monday.

Cannon set the stage for the rumor parade in March 2009 by announcing he planned on starting a family with Carey, according to People.

"We're going to do it," he said at the time. "When we do it we're going to let you all know."
