Art, Art, More Art, and a Dash of Vaudeville, Too

Paintings, ideas, sunshine, that Chris Burden light sculpture, vintage cars, tar pit treasures, more art, more ideas. That's about as near as one can get to an ideal Saturday. We'd also add admiring the sloth statues in Hancock Park, and drinking a glass of something zinfandel-y outside the Bing Center, but everyone has to design his or her own day on the Miracle Mile.

Muse Presents ArtWalk 2009 is a free event that includes walk-right-in-sans-admission privileges at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, plus the Page Museum, plus the Petersen Automotive Museum, plus the Craft and Folk Art Museum. There are many galleries also throwing their doors wide; the hours of the Wilshire-based saunter are noon-8PM, and the date is Saturday, May 30.

Following the ArtWalk, Muse, which is LACMA's very stylish, forward-thinking group of young art lovers, throws a raucous after-party at El Rey with Vaud and the Villains. Simmering, shake-and-shimmy-your-cares-away music with a bit of grind and grit and glamour is on the bill. Speakeasy is the easy-on-the-eyes-and-ears theme, and complimentary sips from a bevy of spirits companies are part of the deal. The concert/party is $40 for non-Muse members ($25 members) and doors open at 8:30.
