Attn Cinephiles: Two Things to Think About ASAP

Two titans of summer cinema are gearing up to roll through town, and lining up and ticketing up and info-ing up in advance is truly key.

First up is the Los Angeles Film Festival, which unspools June 18-28 in Westwood. There's always a lot of news from this stalwart, but the headline this year will surely be the bow of "Public Enemies" with Johnny Depp. Monsieur Depp in period costume, complete with cocked-to-the-side fedora? Expect lines. "Paper Hearts" with those patooties Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi is also on the sked. We recommend mapping out your movie plan well in advance. Can you take the three-day weekend to do so? A thought.

And Last Remaining Seats from the LA Conservancy. You love it, we love it, everyone loves the vintage films and the historic settings and the come-together vibe of the evenings. The films-shown-in-old-downtown-theaters summer series kicks off on May 27, but, lo and behold and lo again, it is looking like everything is sold out but Macunaima on June 17. But, take heart, and take your popcorn, and grab a ticket: Macunaima is showing in the Million Dollar Theatre, which has a newish look, so that should be reason enough to get on this at once.
