Jazz Singer Puts People in the Mood

GLENDALE, Calif. -- If you'd like to step back in time -- at least for a couple of hours -- let the music of jazz singer Rick Blessing take you there.

Blessing takes you back with songs from the greats Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. His repertoire includes other artists from the 50s and 60s, plus original compositions. Blessing does not work alone. He is backed by a pianist, a bass player and a drummer.

Blessing's love for swing began early as an Air Force brat. While moving through Europe, Blessing listened to bands at the officers' clubs. In high school, he began to sing with jazz bands at military bases wherever his family was stationed. After college, he joined the military and quickly became an entertainer in the Special Services Branch.

Blessing says he wants bring a new audience to hear music known as the Great American Songbook.

Blessing's Swing Revue plays at the Jax Bar & Grill in downtown Glendale once a month.
