Protesters Clash Outside Conservative Group Turning Point USA Event at CSULB

Campus police were called out to restore order Tuesday night after a disturbance among protesters outside the Cal State Long Beach Student Union during a conservative group's event inside a campus auditorium.

The protests took place as the conservative group Turning Point USA held an event called "Campus Clash" inside the Beach Auditorium. The event had been scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The event was hosted by Turning Point USA founder and executive director Charlie Kirk and also featured the group's communications director Candace Owens.

Xaya Arcia from UC Merced said "this was their [TPUSA] only college campus event closest to my university. I felt obliged to come and attend."

According to the Turning Point USA's website, the group's "mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government."

"It was very intense," said CSULB student Sarah Morales. "A rush to be around the area and witness everything."

Reportedly, angry words and a few shoves were exchanged, but no arrests were made.
