We've heard of all kinds of weeks with celebrations built around them -- Restaurant Week, of course, Spring Break, the week between Christmas and New Year's -- but try as we might, we can't recall ever coming across a Happy Hour Week before. And it seems like, living in Southern California, that might be a thing. A big thing, even.
It is a thing now, now that a huge assortment of Orange County bars and restaurants have gathered together to put out the special bites and fancy cocktails and easy-to-nibble appetizers during the week of April 12-18. French 75 in Newport Beach, Karl Strauss in Costa Mesa, and Lucca in Irvine are three of the many participants, and the prix fixe happy hour menus at each spot will include traditional bar eats (yes to tempura onion rings) and martinis and wines and brews.
Bar dining has certainly been on the rise over the last few years -- smaller bites, smaller prices -- and we're guessing Happy Hour Week may soon become a staple like its savory sibling Restaurant Week. Maybe Breakfast Week will be up next? Pancakes, half price?
Until then, we can dream. And we can ask for extra olives and a plate of prix fixe sliders, please...
