“Trek” and “Twilight” and Everything That's Sci-Fi

Genre television and film rules. Fly us away, beeping, warped-out spaceships! We like the escapism, the not-so-veiled statements on Earth-bound social issues, the wowza effects. Like it all, in fact.

And the Grand Slam Sci-Fi Summit, a yearly fan-focused convention put on by Creation Entertainment, is way up in our personal stratosphere. When we attended a couple of years back we arrived at the door to find two tiny dogs dressed as "Star Trek" crew members. Oh my. And the wonders only grew inside: toy-crammed booths, interesting panels, stars aplenty.

The 2009 Grand Slam boasts so many twinkly-bright starsJeri Ryan of "Star Trek: Voyager" is a headliner. So are John Noble of "Lord of the Rings" and "Terminator" toughie Linda Hamilton. And hello, "Twilight" gals and guys: Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, and Michael Welch are all on-board for the big, Cullen-esque Sunday event.

Dates: May 1-3. Place: Marriott at the Los Angeles Airport. Your outfit: Vulcan-ish or vaguely vampire-like, we hope.
