Universal Gets Grinchy; Pantages to Grinch in '09

The Grinch welcomed Mayor Villaraigosa to Universal Studios -- or, um, Mayor Villaraigosa welcomed the Grinch to Los Angeles -- and, um, what ultimately brought the mayor and the Dr. Seuss villain/hero together was the opening of Grinchmas at the theme park. Starting on December 6, snow will tumble down, Whos will warble (ya-who-dor-ayyyy) and a Whoville Christmas tree will light up the night. And while we always have a soft spot for the fake Santy Claus, this year his particular brand of Grinchiness, not to mention the Whos' spunky decision to carry on with the holiday without boxes or bags, seems especially timely.

And how quickly can 11 months pass? The touring musical based on Theodore Geisel's holiday classic pulls its Max-led sleigh into the Pantages starting in November 2009. It doesn't take scowling down from Mount Crumpet to know that is going to be the major family go-out of next year's holiday season. Maybe some of the restaurants around Hollywood should start whipping up recipes for Who roast beast and Who pudding now? We smell tie-ins, and they've got the unmistakable fragrance of Who hash. Delish.
