Worth the Drive: Pageant of the Masters

Worth the Drive is NBCLA's twice weekly look at nearby getaways

Your job: Decide to get out of town and fast. Our job: Help you find where you're headed. This week, NBCLA's Worth the Drive takes us to...

Pageant of the Masters: Everybody but everybody, here, there, in California, not in California, knows about this famous summertime festival. Even if they don't know it by name, or where it is -- and they usually know both of those things -- they know one major detail.

That detail: People step into painted and/or sculptural backdrops and recreate, through stillness and stagecraft, famous paintings and statuary and sculpture. Not famous works, too.

Name: Pageant of the Masters

Location: Laguna Beach

2010 dates: Wednesday, July 7 through Tuesday, August 31

Tickets: We talked about tickets last week because they go. Oh do they go. But seats do open up. We called the box office and found out that two sets of tickets in two great sections had just been released for Monday, July 12. There's also a deal where the Pageant will announce a certain number of tickets they'll be releasing the next day. Interested potential ticket buyers then show up at the box office at around 8 a.m. to get a number which will possibly allow them to purchase a ticket. We mentioned tickets go, right?

If you're looking for opening weekend... The box office said there may be a single ticket available here and there. Best call and see. Our policy.

Prices: An upper tier ticket is $15 on a Monday through Thursday; the numbers go up up up from there.

See it: Again. People not in California know about Pageant. Meaning if we're here, we should both know and go.

2010 theme: "Eat, Drink & Be Merry." We can all support that.
