Truck Slams Into Fullerton Apartment, Multiple People Sent to Hospital

A Fullerton family awoke to chaos after a truck slammed into their apartment Sunday morning.

Multiple people were taken to the hospital after the large truck slammed into the complex, according to the Metro Net Fire Authority.

The crash occurred at 6 a.m. in the 650 block of Imperial Highway when the truck veered, hit the curb and struck the building. Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer was traveling within the speed limit before the sudden crash.

The family told NBC4 a concrete wall fell on the mother. Two of her teen boys lifted the wall off her to free her before firefighters arrived. The wall missed her 1-year-old daughter by a few feet.

Two apartments were damaged in the crash, and multiple people were taken to the hospital. It wasn't clear what their conditions were. Two of the people taken to the hospital were the driver, a 44-year-old man, and passenger, a 42-year-old woman.

A 40-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, and their 2-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital as well.

Nine adults and seven children were displaced after five apartments were evacuated and deemed unsafe.

Imperial Highway was closed in both directions, Fullerton police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the driver to veer and crash.
