California Car Culture Remembers Sept. 11 Victims

A Glendale man has created a tribute to the victims of September 11th on five "Angel Cars"

At first glance, five Chevy Camaros lined along a Glendale street look like they're part of a muscle car show.

But a closer look reveals the cars are there as a show of support for the families of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"Inscribed onto these cars are those that fell on that particular day," said Kevyn Major Howard, founder of the "Fueled by the Fallen" organization.

Howard and his organization placed the names of each victim of Sept. 11, 2001 on the five cars to remember those who died and the sacrifices their families have made since the attack 10 years ago.

"We put those names on one-by-one, and you get to meet them in a funny way," said Howard.

The five cars will travel from California to Washington, D.C. to New York City and will be on display at the Statue of Liberty on Sept. 11. It's part of Howard's commitment to remembering those who paid the ultimate price for the country's freedom.

His "Fueled by the Fallen" organization created other tribute cars for military officers killed in war and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Howard, a former actor in the movie "Full Metal Jacket," said he felt compelled to honor these "heroes."

Auroa Allamillo, who lives just down the street from where all the cars are housed, found her brother's name on the car honoring Marines who died.

"I get very emotional to see so many names, but I know other people get to read their names and I think that means a lot to see someone's name on a car," said Allamillo.

It’s a tribute, a honor and lesson in history.

"It will sit in museums one day. Some child with his or her friends will walk up to this car and say 'You see that name there? That's my family. That's my family tree.' And that’s what makes this nation great, still," said Howard.
