A tower of water sprayed from a damaged fire hydrant Friday at a Van Nuys intersection, stopping traffic as water rained down on a street corner.
The hydrant was sheared, possibly by a big rig, near Van Nuys Boulevard and Sylvan Street. The flooded intersection remained closed as crews worked to turn off the water.
The water was shut down by 1:15 p.m. It was not immediately clear whether power lines in the area were damaged.
Motorists tweeted images of the intersection-turned-water park as they waited for the road to reopen.
