Former Palos Verdes Student Previously Acquitted of Murder Back Behind Bars

A former Palos Verdes High School student acquitted of murder charges last year has been arrested for felony crimes, authorities announced Wednesday.

Cameron Scott Terrell, 19, was arrested around 6 p.m. on Tuesday and was being held with no bail, according to booking records.

Terrell was tried in 2018 and acquitted of first-degree murder and attempted murder charges related to a South Los Angeles gang shooting that left a 21-year-old man dead. After a week of deliberations, a jury acquitted Terrell.

The booking record shows Terrell is being held without bail, and a source said the teenager will be making his initial court appearance on Thursday at the East Lake Juvenile Hall Court.

Terrell's alleged felonies were discovered during the investigation into his previous trial by the Los Angeles Police Department South Bureau Homicide Division, the LAPD said in a statement. Due to the dates of the incidents under investigation and Terrell being on trial as an adult at the time of discovery, the LAPD said it was unable to charge the teenager concurrently.

"They didn't have the evidence then and they don't have the evidence now," defense attorney Jovan Blacknell, who said he still represents Terrell, told NBC4.

Blacknell said he is unsure of the exact charge, but the lawyer said it is related to an incident police were aware of when Terrell was on trial for the 2017 murder.
