Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Van, Driver Flees With Two Men in Pickup Truck



    Bicyclist Dies After He Was Struck in Hit and Run Crash

    A 59-year-old bicyclist was fatally struck by a van Fridayin a hit-and-run collision in South Los Angeles.

    Thomas Demetrius Adams was struck by a blue van about 5 p.m. on 49th Street, west of Compton Avenue, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison. The driver was believed to be backing out of her driveway when she hit Adams.

    The driver tried to render aid to Adams then left with two men who picked her up in a white pickup truck to flee the scene after her attempts were unsuccesful. Police are now looking for all three suspects.

    Good Samaritans gathered to try to help free Adams from under the vehicle to no avail before paramedics arrived.

    The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Madison said.

    Anyone who spots the white pickup truck, which had the license plate number 5YNV338 and was last seen heading west on 49th Street, was urged to call the LAPD Central Community Police Station at 213-486-6606.
