Elderly Driver Narrowly Misses People on Busy Sidewalk

An elderly driver narrowly missed hitting pedestrians outside a coffee shop when he hit the gas while parking and plowed over a parking meter, according to NBC4's I-Team.

The close call occurred around 9 a.m. in the 100 block of North Larchmont Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers said the 86-year-old man was trying to park at a meter when he hit the gas instead of the brake and jumped the curb. The car came to rest just outside Italian restaurant Louise’s Trattoria.

Jamie Stein was sitting nearby was startled when the vehicle drove onto the sidewalk next to him.

“It just happened in slow motion for me so my only concern was getting my dog out of the way,” Stein said.

NBC4's I-Team confirmed that the DMV will administer a driving test to see if the man should have a license.
