Garden Grove Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

A 34-year-old man from Lake Forest was arrested Saturday on suspicion of robbing a bank in Garden Grove, a police spokesman said.

The arrest of Miguel "Mike" Aguiar Casillas was actually by Orange County sheriff's deputies, Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney said.

Casillas was identified as the bank robbery suspect from posts on social media, Whitney continued.

OC deputies went to his residence and discovered he had left on foot and family members said they believed that Casillas may be suicidal. Deputies located the suspect at a nearby bridge, near the intersection of Alton and Monarch in Lake Forest about 6:20 a.m. today and took him into custody, Whitney said. Garden Grove police were then contacted and robbery detectives then went to interview Casillas, who was later booked into the Orange County Jail.

The bank robbery took place about 2:40 p.m. Friday, at the HSCB Bank at 9622 Garden Grove Blvd., Whitney said.

The suspect, believed to be Casillas showed a bank teller a message on his cell phone demanding money. No mention of a weapon was made.

The teller gave the suspect about $650 after which he fled the scene walking east from the bank.
